Support the People’s Democratic Revolution in the Philippines
29 March 2018
(Statement of the ILPS Canada on the 49th anniversary of the New People’s Army or NPA)
The International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS Canada), an anti-imperialist alliance, conveys the highest salute to all Red commanders and fighters of the New People’s Army (NPA) on the occasion of its 49th anniversary on March 29.
ILPS Canada also conveys its heartfelt tribute to all the revolutionary martyrs who laid down their lives for the revolution in the ongoing struggle for the liberation of the Filipino People. Their unparalleled and valiant sacrifices have laid the foundation for the emerging people’s revolutionary government. Thousands more fighters will ultimately stand in their place to continue the Peoples Democratic revolution.
With its five decades of service to the revolution and the people, the NPA, under the leadership of the Communist Party of the Philippines, has gained brilliant victories in waging agrarian revolution, mass base building and armed struggle against class oppressors. In the face of severe trials and personal deprivation, the red fighters never waver but instead have gained in strength and resolve. These achievements serve as a beacon of inspiration to anti-imperialist allies around the globe who support the path of revolution and the ultimate goal of achieving national democracy and building a socialist future in the Philippines and beyond.
The protracted crises of the semi-colonial and semi-feudal Philippine society continue to worsen — a majority of peasants in the countryside remain landless, joblessness is still rampant, and social services remain inadequate and unaffordable. The semi-colonial, semi-feudal system feeds the treadmill of migration that has forced more than 10 million Filipino’s overseas with 5,000 leaving daily for jobs around the globe.
Only the victory of the National Democratic Revolution will solve these problems of the Filipino people. After breaking free from the chains of imperialism, feudalism and bureaucrat capitalism, we shall immediately build a modernized agriculture and forge national industries to create jobs and decent living for the people as well as for the people to stop the need for migration to find employment.
In the face of the ongoing human rights catastrophe in the Philippines, Martial Law in Mindanao, the termination of the Peace process by the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and subsequent deployment of three quarters of the strength of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to the resource-rich southern island of Mindanao and the terrorist labeling of opponents of the US puppet Duterte regime, now more than ever, we must support fan the flames of armed revolution ablaze in the countryside. We must cherish and support the red and fighters and commanders of the NPA who have dedicated their lives to the liberation of the Filipino People.
The Philippine Revolution and the NPA are a beacon of light in the ongoing struggle against imperialism. With the perseverance and unwavering determination of the red fighters and commanders, all revolutionaries, and the masses of the people, the revolution will surely triumph and the Philippines shall march on to a socialist future.
Long live the 49th anniversary of the NPA!
Long live International Solidarity!
Support the Peoples Democratic Revolution; support the NPA!
Oppose US and Canadian Imperialism!
